ProjectFuture is a scholarship offered by Greater Iowa, which awards three, $1,000 scholarships each year to a member or an immediate family member.
This scholarship is named in memory of Roxann Harmon, a former Greater Iowa branch manager, who was committed to the credit union movement.
Membership requirements: The student or the student’s immediate family (father, mother, sister, brother, grandparents) must be active members in good standing of Greater Iowa for at least one year prior to applying. (Active is defined as performing at least one transaction a month at Greater Iowa, with a transaction defined as making a deposit, writing a check, paying an online bill, using a debit or ATM card.)
Eligible institutions: Student must be enrolled full-time in an accredited not-for-profit two or four-year academic college or university, with students attending Iowa schools receiving special consideration. Excluded from the program are for-profit institutions, vocational schools, online schools and non-accredited institutions.
Timeline: Applications for the 2015 award are now closed. (Applications for the 2016 award will be available July 1, 2015 until March 1, 2016.) Winners are selected the first week of April. Funds will be deposited in the student’s school tuition fund on August 1 following the announcement of the scholarship recipients. Students can submit their applications beginning in July of each year for funding in fall of the following year.
Essay requirement: Students will be asked to complete a 250-500 word essay, answering the question, "How I plan to use my education to better my community?"
Funding: A $1,000 check will be sent to the successful applicant’s school of record with instructions that funds are to be deposited into the student’s tuition account.
