If you’d like to get involved with the credit union and represent the members; if you think you have something to offer and would like to volunteer your time; if you would like to run for a seat on the Board of Directors, we encourage you to submit your name for nomination.
The Board of Directors of a credit union is elected by the members of the credit union at the annual meeting. Directors cannot be paid for their time or services. There are four, three-year volunteer terms open for election. In addition, directors must be bondable and pass a background check. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age; be a member of Greater Iowa for a minimum of 12 months; and a member of the credit union in good standing. Criteria used to qualify as an active member-in-good standing include: actively using products and services, no unpaid NSF checks, no more than one 30-day late payment on a loan, minimum of 10 years passed since discharge of any bankruptcy, and be bondable under Greater Iowa’s polices.
Candidates for the Board of Directors should possess a dedication and commitment to the purposes of the credit union movement and to the credit union. An understanding of basic business procedures and an ability to read a balance sheet is also helpful. Training and attendance at monthly Board meetings is required.
If you are interested in running for election, please submit a Declaration of Candidacy explaining why you want to become a credit union volunteer, include your experience and expertise, and state how the credit union could benefit from your involvement by noon, Friday, January 3, 2014. The nominating committee will review all applications, notify qualified candidates and place their names on the ballot. Elections will be held during the credit union’s annual meeting on February 8, 2014.
