Greater Iowa grant funds specialized books for Meeker Elementary third graders

    November 15, 2011

Greater Iowa recently presented a $1,000 check to Diane Bullock, a third-grade teacher at Meeker Elementary. Bullock will use funds to purchase two, specialized reading sets to help students of all levels learn about social studies. The sets will be shared among three third grade classrooms.

“The grant from the Greater Iowa Credit Union will be used to purchase two social studies reading kits for all three sections of third grade at Meeker Elementary,” Bullock said. “We greatly appreciate the financial support and hope these books will spark students’ curiousity about social studies. By having available various reading levels of text, all students will have the opportunity to become engaged in reading and learn.”
ProjectClassroom is a special grant program for K-5 teachers to purchase items they may not otherwise be able to afford. Nominations were accepted between June and September 1, and consisted of an essay of no more than 500 words. The five winners were chosen by special selection committees from each of Greater Iowa’s branch communities. Nominations were accepted from teachers, parents and any other member of the community.
